BCCIC Kootenays Sustainable Development Tour

Greetings from Invermere!

BCCIC has hit the road to promote the UN’s Global Goals and to learn how organizations and individuals are already contributing to sustainable development throughout the province. We are currently mid-way through the Kootenays’ tour and have enjoyed warm hospitality and engaging roundtable discussions with key groups in Castlegar, Nelson, Cranbrook and Kimberley.

The purpose of the tours is to understand the ‘state of play’ of sustainable development in BC from the perspective of groups and organisations already working on these issues. Information is being gathered and connections weaved through round table discussions focused on the following questions:

1. Who is BCCIC, what are Sustainable Development Goals, and why do they matter?
2. What are the main sustainable development issues in your region?
3. How are groups and organisations already contributing to sustainable development?
4. What are the opportunities for collaboration?

Based on these roundtable discussions, BCCIC will report on the main sustainable development issues in each region, the different goals that organisations are working on, and will identify opportunities for collaboration between groups working on identical goals as well as complimentary aspects of sustainable development both locally and globally.

The UN’s Global Goals have set the agenda for international cooperation for the next 15 years and present a compelling invitation for collaboration. We look forward to facilitating discussion on the Goals and encouraging collaboration here in the Kootenays and on the Vancouver Island leg of the tour coming up on October 26th – 30th.
