Conscious Use of Power in Leadership – IDW 2021 – Wellbeing Afternoon Series

February 9 @ 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Building Power Intelligence

Power often remains a subtext: we experience its effects, but rarely is power spoken of directly in our institutions, families, relationships. Or when we speak of it, we seem to be speaking of different things: Is power about social identity? Context and roles? Being rich? Having rock-solid self esteem? When we examine our own experiences, we may find that power is shifting, contextual, and static all at once.  In this 2.5 hour experiential workshop, we will begin to build a sense of Power Intelligence (Julie Diamond, 2020), which includes the ability to recognize a variety of tangible and intangible powers in yourself, others and systems. Power Intelligence helps us adapt our powers to fit the context, use our powers to serve the needs of everyone equitably, and wean ourselves off “outsourced” powers, giving us more access to the core of who we are.
