SUMMARY:Building Mutual Economic Partnerships
DESCRIPTION:Join the Aga Khan Foundation Canada and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) to explore Canada’s role in a shifting global economy. \n\n\n\nThis event will be available in-person and online. Free to attend. \nRegister here\nThe global economic landscape has accelerated efforts by governments around the world to strengthen economic resilience\, diversify partnerships\, and secure access to strategic markets and supply chains. Countries are reassessing long-standing assumptions about development\, trade\, economic security\, and international cooperation\, as reflected in the G7 leaders’ declaration of June 2026. At the same time\, many emerging economies are calling for partnerships that extend beyond traditional aid relationships to include trade\, investment\, innovation\, skills\, and technology collaboration. \nIn Canada\, these shifts have prompted renewed discussion about the role of international assistance within a broader economic\, trade\, and foreign policy agenda. Recent speeches and policy directions have emphasized the importance of building mutual economic partnerships that deliver sustainable development outcomes while also supporting Canada’s long-term trade\, investment\, workforce\, and supply chain interests\, including the goal of doubling non-US exports within the next decade. \nThis public event\, co-hosted by Aga Khan Foundation Canada and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC)\, will consider Canada’s role in building partnerships that respond to global challenges while creating opportunities for both Canada and its international partners. It will uncover how mutual economic partnerships can contribute to shared prosperity\, while examining the opportunities\, challenges\, and trade-offs associated with this evolving agenda. \n\n\n\nAbout the series \nShared Futures brings together leaders\, researchers\, policymakers\, and practitioners to examine the future of global cooperation and Canada’s role in an increasingly interconnected and rapidly changing world. \nThe series offers a forum for meaningful discussion\, knowledge exchange\, and relationship-building that foregrounds insights\, experiences\, and evidence from low- and middle-income countries. The series seeks to contribute to evidence-informed conversations on development priorities\, programming\, and Canada’s engagement on the global stage. \nA partnership of Aga Khan Foundation Canada and the International Development Research Centre. \nThis event marks the first public convening of the series.
