Liberia’s Chief Medical Officer to Visit Vancouver, Talk Post-Ebola Liberia

June 19, 2015 – Vancouver, BC – Dr. Francis Kateh, Liberia’s Chief Medical Officer will be in BC June 21st ­ 24th for a three day appreciation tour to discuss disaster preparedness and thank BC charities for contributions during the country’s battle with Ebola over the last year.

Korle­Bu Neuroscience Foundation (KBNF) in partnership with the BC Council for International Cooperation (BCCIC) welcome the general public to attend an informative presentation given by Dr. Kateh on the story of eliminating Ebola, lessons learned, and challenges moving forward. The event will include both a networking session as well as a question and answer period.

Held Monday, June 22nd from 7:00 ­ 9:00 PM at the UBC/VGH Eye Care Centre (2550 Willow Street, Vancouver), this event will also be livestreamed and available for online viewing :

While the largest Ebola outbreak in history has been quelled, there is much that remains to be done to prevent future outbreaks and rebuild the Liberian healthcare system. An expert in disaster preparedness, Dr. Kateh will offer insight into this past year’s outbreak and discuss the importance of what lies ahead.

Liberia was declared Ebola free on May 9th this year, meaning 42 days had passed since the last laboratory-confirmed case was buried. At the peak of transmission last summer, Liberia was reporting between 300 and 400 new cases a week.
