Open Call for Youth to Sit on COP24 Delegate Selection Committee
The British Columbia Council for International Cooperation (BCCIC) is putting out an immediate, time-bound call for BC youth to step forward to form a youth delegation selection committee.
The committee will be formed to select 6 youth delegates to the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP24) held in Katowice, Poland between 3-14 December 2018. Note that youth applying to this committee will forfeit their ability to apply to the delegation itself, and must sign a conflict of interest policy document in order to participate. There is no compensation for this opportunity other than a sincere appreciation from the network.
The selected committee will be charged with executing the selection process which includes, but is not limited to:
- Reviewing the applicants’ résumés, letters of motivation, and any other supplementary document(s);
- Discussing the suitability of each applicant based on merit, experience, and guidelines provided by BCCIC;
- Conducting interviews, either through Skype or in-person, with shortlisted candidates;
- Preparing the committee’s final decision with justification and reasonings to the BCCIC Delegation Project Coordinator.
The youth on this committee will be between the ages of 18-24, inclusively, and must be a resident of the Province of British Columbia. Candidates must have either attended at least one international conference held by the United Nations, or be deeply involved with an organization, campus club or project related to sustainable development, climate action, youth engagement or civil society advocacy. Work will commence Tuesday 10 April and end 1 May 2018, once the delegation is finalized.
Interested youth are asked to step forward by emailing Colton Kasteel, BCCIC Youth Delegation Coordinator, before Friday, April 10th 2018, 23:59 PST at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include “COP24 Committee Application – [Your last name]” as the subject of the e-mail. Please include a resume/CV and cover letter explaining why youth engagement is important in international processes like the COP conference and how we can promote more youth participation in global climate action. Please also include your relevant experience in international processes or climate action/advocacy.
If you are a qualified youth with a passion for making sure youth are involved in international processes and global climate actions, then this is your opportunity to make sure the right person is selected.
