We’re off!

In less than a week, the BCCIC Youth Delegation will be heading to Poland to attend the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP24)!

On December 2nd, world leaders will gather in Katowice, Poland with the goal of addressing climate change. This yearly conference is the convergence of states, industry, civil society groups, and activists, all gathering to face climate change. As Youth Delegates participating in the process, we will observe negotiations, share stories of ‘Young Women Leading on Climate” at a side-event, and most importantly, bring forward the voices of BC youth in bilateral meetings with diplomats and decision-makers.

As a youth delegation from British Columbia, we attend COP24 with the intention to represent BC youth on the global stage. In hopes of upholding the voices of young British Columbians, we spent the last few months gathering your perspectives through in-person and online consultations. Through these avenues, your responses and insights helped shape our strategy leading into the climate negotiations.

Before heading off, we want to share what we heard from BC youth in the survey responses and consultation discussions – this will be shared shortly. We reached 175 people through our online survey alone, and approximately 100 people at our in person events. A huge thank you goes out to all the contributors – we can hardly wait to bring their voices and thoughts to COP24!

Lastly, we invite you to follow along throughout our journey. We will be sharing our experiences and reflections regarding how the negotiations are unfolding, daily, on social media. You can follow many of the delegates on twitter – check out this BCCIC twitter list feed. COP 24 updates will also  appear on BCCIC Facebook and Twitter accounts, and blog posts and news will go up on the BCCIC website.

If you’d like to sign up for the COP 24 email list you can do so here. (Want to be in the know with BCCIC more generally? You can sign up for our regular monthly newsletter and special updates.)
