As part of #IDW2021, SOVI is hosting a workshop with expert decolonial facilitator, Nathali Arostegui. Aligning with this year’s theme, #GoForTheGoals with a focus on gender equality, health and climate change, it’s called “Healing oppression through reconnection of the self.” Participants will learn to tackle the “blocks keeping them from making an impact on the world, using a holistic, trauma informed, somatic approach.” Detailed information and event registration available here: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/healing-oppression-through-reconnection-of-the-self-tickets-137638954819?aff=
New to our 2021 programming is SOVI’s Book Club. With it, we hope to create a community of conversation and learning on social justice issues, to promote social and structural change. Also, to build a network of peers, during a time when meaningful social interaction is scarce. While we’re encouraging youth engagement, all are welcome!
The first meeting is Febraury 16th at 5:30PM PST over Zoom. Our first book is the award-winning, The Skin We’re In, by Canadian activist and journalist Desmond Cole. We are eager to use this important text to learn, incite conversation and promote action.
